Infrastructure strategy

Unidel’s infrastructure strategy services include concept analysis, location analysis, contracting strategy, project delivery and technical solutions.

High-level concept analysis

At the outset, we undertake a strategic assessment of your project concept to determine the constraints, risks and likelihood of implementation within the required timeframe. We can advise on issues such as:

  • competing projects
  • current and future demand
  • commercial, environmental and social factors that may impact on approvals and construction development
  • capital cost and construction methodology.

We use concept studies, risk profile analysis and technical feasibility evaluation to help you make informed decisions on your project.

The right location for your infrastructure

We help you identify a suitable location so that your project is viable from cost, social and environmental perspectives.

  • Selecting the best site or infrastructure corridor. We draw on our knowledge of land use suitability and the construction and operational needs of infrastructure, to determine the best site or corridor for your project. We analyse the engineering-related elements that influence project costs, the environmental elements that determine project feasibility, and social elements such as impacts on landowners and the greater community. Our in-house experts use a combination of geographic information systems (GIS), desktop reviews, and physical survey techniques to collect data, and assess and select optimum sites and infrastructure corridors. Our tools and techniques include standardised ecological survey templates and methods, constraint mapping and alignment sheets.
  • Analysing the environmental risks. We work closely with you to understand your proposed project and any environmental barriers to the project’s success. As the first step we undertake an opportunities and constraints analysis that is mapping-based and identifies the potential environmental impacts and associated legislative triggers. This forms the basis of an environmental impact statement (EIS). Consideration of these constraints in the design process reduces potential time and cost delays associated with difficult regulatory conditions.
  • Developing the approvals process. Approval processes differ from project to project, and can range from internal processes to dealing with external regulators. We guide you on the best options for your project and provide you with an informed approvals strategy taking into account the potential lead times required for approvals.

Contracting strategy

We undertake detailed contracting strategies and recommend the most appropriate type of contract for your project to achieve your desired outcomes. Our contracting strategy also focuses on the most appropriate structure for the delivery of your contract, so it is implemented in the most cost effective manner. Our experienced team of construction professionals including quantity surveyors, estimators, and contract and construction engineers measure and value the construction work, estimate the capital cost of your project, and assess your project readiness – including technical and contract risks.

Technical solutions

Our technical and engineering team provides assistance and direction from concept through to project delivery and implementation. Our individual team members have cross-discipline experience in design, hands-on construction, commissioning and operation of pipelines and facilities. With these capabilities we can deliver operable, cost-effective and intelligent engineering solutions.

We provide a diverse range of services including electrical, chemical and mechanical disciplines in the oil, gas field development, and gas and water transmission pipeline areas. Our team has the capability for overall management of engineering and project management associated with route selection, project design, construction, commissioning and operation.
