Unidel’s donation to Angel Flight

Unidel is proud to donate $25,000 to Angel Flight – our chosen principal beneficiary for 2010 – in recognition of the remarkable service the not-for-profit organisation provides to rural Australians.

At Unidel, we work substantially in country areas delivering land access, environment, stakeholder engagement, spatial data, project controls and contract administration, and technical services to our clients.

A lot of our people have also hailed from the bush so we recognise the tyranny of distance and the stress encountered when illness or tragedy strikes people that live in remote areas. It’s for those reasons, and more, that the Angel Flight cause is close to our hearts.

Angel Flight is a charity that coordinates non-emergency flights to help country people trying to deal with the triple trouble of bad health, poor finances and daunting distance. All flights are free and may involve patients traveling to medical facilities anywhere in Australia.

Angel Flight's charter is to facilitate non-emergency access to medical care for people who would otherwise not have access, or would have access only with hardship, either physical or financial.

Angel Flight pilots come from all walks of life and donate their time, their skills and most of their aircraft costs for each flight.

Unidel goes international

Unidel is now providing specialist pipe mill inspection services into for QGC’s QCLNG Project of the pipe mill and coating facility in Shanghai, central China.

Unidel is providing inspection services to the project with two internationally-accredited inspectors to review steel quality, undertake ultrasonic testing of seam welding, review coating application, undertake the Manufacturer’s Data Report (MDR) compilation and be responsible for the overall pipe quality during the manufacturing process.

The inspection services, which will be carried out over a 12 month period, form a critical component of the project and will ensure the integrity of the pipe and coating prior to shipment and subsequent installation in Queensland.

Bao Steel has been contracted to provide 350 kilometres of DN1050mm (42 inch) X 70 grade coated line pipe which will be used to transport coal seam methane from Queensland’s Surat Basin gas fields to Gladstone as part of the QGC’s QCLNG project.

Unidel – the next generation

As part of Unidel’s work experience program, we are currently assisting four university students to develop practical skills in their chosen fields.

The students are at various stages of their degrees in the fields of engineering, occupational physiology, urban development and business law. At Unidel, they are working on various projects within their disciplines which will provide them with invaluable hands on experience.

As the skills shortage continues to tighten its grip on the energy and infrastructure industries, it’s our goal to develop the skills of young people as much as possible. It’s one little way we can continue to feed the industry with talented, skilled people the industry needs.
